Do you know if your vehicle has a timing belt? Do you know if it's due for replacement?

Timing belts are found on many vehicles. They ensure the camshafts on top of the engine are synchronized with the crankshaft at the bottom and depending on the engine, they may also drive a water pump, oil pump, or balance shaft. Over time, the rubber belt deteriorates and weakens. If the belt is not replaced in time, it will eventually break, and in many cases this means very costly engine repairs. Typical repairs due to a broken timing belt range from $1500 to $3000 because of valve damage.
